Ah rats, left my stylus and papyrus at home!

How am I to make a record of this mob’s actions,

Coming out to see the crazies with a water-fixated-syndrome?

Guess I’ll just make do, getting up close to the various factions.

Hmm, the leader isn’t much to look at

With his thin looks and unkempt hair.

At least he doesn’t need a bath

Since he’s waded into the Jordan in the open air.

Ah, now he’s dunking folks saying

“repent” and “prepare the way”.

Men and women emerging wet, in a stance of praying

The line gets longer - until John’s relative steps into the fray.

What’s this? John is refusing him?

A spit spat among brothers?

No worries, they go ahead with the “swim”.

Whoa! Outa the blue, thunder!

A vision! Everybody shudders!

Didja hear that? Didja see that?

“This is my Son in whom I’m well pleased”

Astonishment, all of us standing pat

Then falling to our knees.

What did we all just witness?

Is this the start of something new?

Now, even I want to be part of this wetness -

As the Baptizer continues wading in the Jordan to and fro.
