Superheroes - we may all be fans.

Epic backstories, a lot are orphans.

Singular powers with moral fiber.

Men and women of high caliber.

Xray vision, speed, leaping towers,

Science experiments resulting in errors.

Strength, extraordinary powers

Fill imaginations with wowzers!

Soaring music scores entice expectations

While the true superhero gets mere “Amens” as exclamations.

Our entertainment is all fine and well

As long as it does not replace where the Holy Spirit may dwell.

The youth of today grow up with free admission

To movie houses with a sleek intermission.

Our churches try to emulate those experiences

With videos and pop music dalliances.

But the Savior of humanity can do more with miracles

Than any of the contrived pop culture oracles.

His theme song is echoed in his church

Among believers and those in search.

You won’t find the word ‘Super’ in the Word -

His signs and wonders elevate him as Lord.

Superheroes do deal with sacrifice

But their losses can never pay the true price…

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.*
